Welcome to the Nottage Maritime Institute

The Nottage Maritime Institute is a Registered Charity, established in 1896, specialising in teaching not only RYA Shorebased Courses but several of our own unique courses mostly with a nautical flavour.

The Nottage is a local maritime museum located on Wivenhoe Quay, with a fine collection of paintings, photographs and models all with local connections. We open to the public on Sunday afternoons from May - September 2.00 p.m.- 5.00 p.m. or by appointment during the week.  The Nottage is becoming known for summer exhibitions of art and also those reflecting aspects of its own collection.  See our exhibition page for details of our 2015 exhibition depicting Wivenhoe's waterside family of two Swans and a Goose!

The Nottage is home to The Friends of the Nottage, a group of supporters who may use the Nottage facilities and attend six lectures on a variety of subjects during the winter months for a modest subscription.

We are also home to the Wivenhoe Film Club who meet during the winter months showing a wide range of films. There is a stair lift at the rear of the building.
